Registration
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Registration of Inferno helps encourage me to keep producing fine software.
In addition to this, registration will remove the blocks on the game that
prevent a player from completing more than a few quests. Until the game is
registered, no one can win the game. Inferno MUST be registered or removed
from your system within 30 days of the intial use of the door game.
Registration of Inferno is currently only $15.00. Please send checks made
out to Zachary Benz to: (make sure you include the register.frm!!!)
What is Inferno?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Inferno is an ANSI graphics role playing door. Players in Inferno go on
various quests in order to eventually win the game. Along the way, they must
defeat many creatures, help many people, and find uses for a number of items.
The plot line is designed such that there is more than one way to solve
problems. Each player will reach the end by a differnt path. The game consists
of an overworld map on which the players can move about. Located on the
overworld map are various locations such as towns, castles, and dungeons. By
entering these areas, they can "zoom in" and explore the areas they have entered.
Installing Inferno
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Installation of Inferno is rather simple. In order for Inferno to properly
work on your system, you must edit the file INFERNO.CTL. INFERNO.CTL is the
control file for the game, and is commented to make it easier for you to edit.
The four most important things you must edit in the control file is the BBS
dropfile type you are using, you first name, your last name, and the name of
your BBS.
Once you have edited the control file, edit your BBS system to support the
door, and to make the proper dropfile conversions if any are necessary.
Command Line Switches
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
/BXXXXX - This is for those people with locked baud rates - XXXXX is the baud
rate you have your modem locked at.
/L - Local mode.
/Nx - Node number (for systems such as RBBS-PC).
/Pyyy - Specifies the path to the BBS dropfile. For example: /PC:\BBS
/S - Quick SysOp logon - starts up Inferno locally with the name of the
SysOp (as listed in INFERNO.CTL) as the name of the user.
SysOp ALT Keys
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The following keys can be used by the SysOp anytime the door is in use:
ALT-C - Enters chat mode. Chat can be exited by pressing ESC.
ALT-D - Drop to DOS
ALT-H - Help! Lists the available SysOp Keys.
ALT-I - System Info - lists information about the current user, baud rate,
etc.
Up Arrow - Add 2 minutes to the user's time.
Down Arrow - Subtract 2 minutes from the user's time.
Version History
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
0.1 (ß) - First release of Inferno (BETA). The game is all set up, except
none of the plot has been written, and most of the maps and items
have yet to be created.
0.2 (ß) - Fixed up the data files - no longer text. Data is read in and
written out much faster now.
0.4 (ß) - Still BETA - fixed a problem with the game clearing the message box
repeatedly, up to four times, before acting on the user's commands.
Shops now allow you to sell items as well as buy them.
0.5 (ß) - Maps are now redrawn faster - only parts of the screen that change
are redrawn to save time. In addition to this, users now have the
option of not seeing the ANSI monster pictures during battles. This
means that they dont have to wait for the picture to be drawn, and
then the map redrawn after the battle.
0.8 (ß) - Many updates:
Weapons can be changed during battle.
Treasure chests allowed in castles in towns.
Title screen, story, and player documentaion added.
Delay with message box clearing fixed - message box only cleared
when its needed.
Weapons/Shields/Armors can have either bonus or minus affects
against a monster (different for each monster).
Much of story added, more monsters added.
Problem fixed with users getting blank names.
"Dollars" is now "Gold"
Bug Report
~~~~~~~~~~
Currently, I know of no bugs in the program. Of course, this is still a BETA
version, so here be tygers. If you find any bugs in the game, please let me
know as soon as possible so I can fix them. See the registration section for
